Crime and Persecution

Crime and Persecution

The only predator badgers have is unfortunately man. They are shy animals but suffer from horrific persecution which still goes on across our region. Sadly badger baiting continues to take place as does ‘lamping’ with dogs (such as lurchers or greyhound type breeds) where they are trained to catch and kill any animal.

If you see any suspicious activity report it to the police immediately and then ourselves.

What is a badger-related crime?
It is a crime to destroy or damage a badger sett yet this often happens through developments, agricultural or forestry practices and highways works.

How can we help prevent crime?
We as a group work hard to provide advice and guidance and deal with incidents as and where we have the person power to do so. Owing to the great number of developments across the region we can’t get directly involved in each one but we assist where we can.

We also provide training sessions on badger crime and persecution.
